The trend of coworking space in Indonesia has risen steadily for the past few years. Initially, this space and terminology are much more familiar and somewhat closely associated with the expatriates or digital nomads. However, lately, it is getting more common for Indonesian to opt for coworking space to do their daily tasks. 


Despite its rising popularity to the wider public, somehow coworking space is sometimes misunderstood as another terminology: executive office or executive suite. This creates a common misconception that leads to the inefficiency one may experience upon deciding which work environment fits the best to their needs. And to ease the confusion, this article will help readers to properly grasp the whole meaning and functions of both phrases by featuring several essential points.



Definition


The general meaning of coworking space is a place for individuals that work independently with high workplace flexibility. Freelancers, self-employed individuals, or digital nomads are the common example of individuals that often can be found in a coworking space. But there is more than that. Coworking is about how these individuals work much better together in a shared area, rather than isolated in their own space. It is also about community – the members of the coworking space. There are variety of events, workshops, networking opportunities, etc. for the development of community. 


On the other hand, the executive office suite is a set of serviced individual offices. Often there is a proprietor who leases their floors or buildings to businesses that need enough workspaces or perhaps that have a minimum budget to afford the larger space. An executive suite is generally a common option for small enterprises that want to instil a professional and trustworthy impression into their stakeholders. This type of workspace commonly comes in full-service amenities that are easy and ready to use; making it much more convenient for business to achieve their goals.




Facilities


Coworking space offers only a few amenities such as Wi-Fi, communal office equipment, desk, meeting room, common lounge or pantry, and 24-hour access; and all of this often can be accessed by joining the membership. But these days, there is also a one-day pass or daily walk-in option for more flexibility. Besides, coworking space also has its own community-building programs that aim to retain its member and expand its customer base. 


Office suite usually provides spaces or rooms which some comes with full extended facilities such as Wi-Fi, private office equipment, meeting room, common lounge or pantry, 24-hour secure access, receptionist services, cleaning services, parking areas, etc. All of this can be enjoyed privately by signing up the leasing contract that usually lasts from one to three years.


Price


Coworking space is typically much more affordable rather than executive suite; because it only provides a small range of space and facilities. And conversely, since the executive office offers advanced amenities and a larger area to work, it is much more expensive compare to coworking space. 


Finally, by learning the basic differences, you can choose the right workspace for yourself or your business much easier. But still, before you settle in, choose and consider all things wisely!
